Cold chain condensing units market update
Updates from the Cold Chain Southern European Condensing Units market set for continuous growth
BSRIA continue to track the evolution of commercial refrigeration unit markets and have added reports for Italy and Spain, based on its 2024 research, to the existing portfolio of Condensing Units North American and UK market analysis.
Our research revealed that both markets posted positive sales results with condensing units sales value in both markets reaching $185 million dollars (179.6m euros) in 2024. Growth is expected to progress at a steady pace over the next 5 years. Innovation, expansion of cold storage sector and growth of the perishable good supply chain are driving demand for condensing units.
In the pursuit of better efficiency and lower carbon footprint, industry has developed efficient compressors and embraced the use of natural refrigerants like CO2 and propane. The penetration of CO2 based condensing units in yearly sales is forecast to expand from 10% to 40+% between now and 2029 in the countries researched. Leading companies - among which Zanotti, Rivacold, Intarcon, Tecumseh – are continually investing in research and development to launch innovative products that comply with environmental regulations and meet customer demands.
Expansion of the cold storage sector and the growth of the perishable food supply chain are driving demand for condensing units in connection with increasing consumption of packaged and processed food and beverages in the Mediterranean countries, particularly in Italy and Spain. Our research shows that more than half of condensing units sold in Spain and Italy went into supermarkets or to the HoReCa (Hotel /Restaurant/Catering) industry last year. Monoblocks and cased condensing units are commonly used in these sectors for kitchen refrigeration, display units, and cold storage.
In both, Spain and Italy, where agri-food sector account for roughly 9% of countries’ GDP, food process industry is an important part of the refrigeration business.
BSRIA reports on condensing units market providing comprehensive information about the type of units sold in volume and value terms, including five-year forecast, the segmentation by capacity, by application, by type of compressors, as well as information on refrigerant used, and on competitive market environment.
